From I-465, you might have seen the old TWA Cargo building being demolished. In its place will be a new hangar for Comlux, where they will modify airliners for VIP use.

This structure dated from the late 70s, and was required when the old facility's space was needed for Concourse D (it wasn't called that then) expansion. Since by the time TWA moved in, they had ceased operating all-cargo aircraft, the ramp became available to other carriers. Space was subleased to Zantop, which had been forced to leave their previous location (the old Allison hangar, which became USAir's facility). Other operators seen there over the years were Wrangler (Blue Bell Aviation) with CL-44s, and then Tradewinds (their follow-on company), later with L-1011 and A-300s.

I have lots of good memories of shooting pictures on that ramp. Thanks to Ron (I can't remember his last name) of Zantop for the access over the years!

I will post a photo of the demolished building.
