It sure would be nice to fly DL westbound once in a while. As SLC is their western hub, why do they not offer IND-SLC service? Indy is the 27th largest metro area in the nation, with nearly 2 million people. Wouldn't DL want to serve their western hub from that size market, without making us always go through CVG or ATL?

Your wish has come true. Effective Oct 15th Delta will offer twice daily nonstop service from IND to SLC in their EMB 170 which will feature 6 first class seats and 64 coach seats. Very smart move on Delta's part to offer upgraded seating on a RJ.

Just saw this on IIB:

The EMB-170 is a NICE aircraft. If you're a non-fan of long flights on regional jets (like me), you'll definitely appreciate the EMB-170. Republic (aka Chautauqua aka Freedom Air aka Shuttle America), which is based in Indy, was the U.S. launch partner for this plane. They currently fly routes for UA using it. I had my first opportunity to fly on an EMB-170 10 days ago IND-ORD-MCI and ORD-IND return. It's wider, taller, and has more legroom. The cabin is very bright and airy. I don't know what it will be like on a 2.5-hour trip to SLC, but I'm guessing that compared to a 2.5-trip on a CRJ or on an ERJ-135/145, the -170 wins hands down. Heck, I'd even like it better than a 737, since the seating is all 2x2.

This is a good development for IND, both for adding another n/s destination for us, AND for continuing to be a model airport for profiatbly servicing longer-haul routes on a new breed of regional jets.
