This is an interesting move especially on about 6 or 7 weeks notice. NW is adding nonstop service between MKE and LAX on the A320.

What is messed up is that NW is our #1 carrier and we can't even get A320 service to LAX. 1x daily on the A319 is all that we have from late August until May or June. You'd think NW would offer A320 or 757 service on the route. I think IND-LAX can handle more than 1x daily. According to faremeasure.com 823 people a day travel IND-LAX.

Don't forget that NW has a codeshare agreement with Midwest now. Maybe this is taking the place of one or more flights that Midwest formerly operated?

Can I get a peanut crumb with that thimble of Coke?

They are dumping an extra 148 seats each way into the mix. To me it would have seen like a wiser move to put that A320 in IND and maybe moving the A319 from here to there. Ideally they'd run a 757-200 on the route. That should provide enough seats from September to May when NW is the only carrier on the route and only running 1x daily. That is something like 182 seats. They can split up the fuel cost among more passengers that way.

BINGO!

With the pull down of the Md-80s from the Midwest fleet, I believe Midwest can no longer reach LAX from MKE (on a 717). Pluss, why not throw 148 seats at the market rather than the 90 that a 717 holds?
