I sent another request to Senator Bayh asking him to contact the Department of Justice and persuade them to block the attempted merger of Northwest Airlines and Delta Airlines. I stated the recent banking crisis as a reason to block the attempt. Just like with Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae the industry wouldn't be able to afford the loss of the company so taxpayers would be called on to bail out yet another company.

The industry can handle the loss of one airline or another but if the merged company were to fail the results would be disastrous. The failure wouldn't be allowed and we the taxpayers would be left holding the tab once again.
