4/9/06 CO 738 IAH-SAN, 737-800, seat 5F

4/11/06 CO 327 SAN-EWR, 737-800, redeye in seat 2A (first)
4/12/06 CO 2952 EWR-IND, ERJ 145, seat 2A

San Diego is great. The weather was wonderful for this trip, and it's the kind of place that you know is nice even when the weather isn't great. I stayed in the Mission Bay area, which was absolutely beautiful. And I had a chance to go to Balboa Park, which was awesome. Old style buildings and amazing gardens. I would highly recommend a visit.

The SAN airport is really quite nice. It looks to be fairly new, and since this was my first trip there I don't know what the "old" terminal was like. Interestingly, it's about the same size as the new IND terminal is supposed to be. 41 gates in two terminals, A and B. Lots of soaring glass in the entry atrium. Ticketing, security, and gates on the top floor, with baggage and other services on the ground floor. Two lounges, a Delta Crown Room and a United Red Carpet. I used the Delta lounge, which was rather small, but uncrowded and adequate. SAN has service to Hawaii on Hawaiian and Aloha Airlines, some Mexico service on AeroMexico, Vancouver service on Air Canada/Jazz, plus Jet Blue, Midwest, Alaska, and SunCountry. Southwest is huge there - over 100 flights a day, I think. That's what it's like to really have Southwest give a crap about your city. Granted, WN's been there a lot longer than they've been in IND, but our service on WN is practically nonexistent compared to SAN. I'm told they used to have service to LGW on British Airways, but I don't know that for sure.

The terminal design is so similar to the plans for the new IND that I wonder if this isn't an airport that inspired the IND design. All in all, a nice airport that fits really well with this city's service, location, and size.

Can I get a peanut crumb with that thimble of Coke?

You're right it is a nice airport, and BA did have LGW service stopping in PHX first on 772's.

Why do my favorite airlines end up going defunct??
