From Inside Indiana Business, 12/14/07:

Cape Air Considering More Indiana Routes

Cape Air Considering Flights From Gary to Indy, Possibly Terre Haute
An independent regional airline is reportedly trying to finalize a proposal to start daily flights from Gary to Indianapolis. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana are reporting that Cape Air President Andrew Bonney on Thursday toured the Gary/Chicago International Airport and met with airport Director Chris Curry.

Gary I can see but Terre Haute? Wouldn't Ft. Wayne make more sense?

Yeah, I would have thought the same thing. HUF is only what - 70 minutes' drive to IND? And will be even closer when the new terminal opens?

Probably they're thinking that Terre Haute will subsidize the service very nicely. And the article is vague - maybe they're thinking HUF-GYY without a stop at IND? That would be valuable, since there's no easy way to get from Terre Haute to Chicago. You're looking at a 4+ hour drive...

FWA would seem to have more demand than HUF, given that it's a bit more than 2 hrs drive, and the mess that is I-69 from Fishers to Castleton. Using that same logic, SBN-IND would make a ton of sense. But then, FWA and SBN already have scheduled air service. Maybe HUF is just perceived as lower-hanging fruit.

Does anyone know how Cape Air has been doing since starting in November? I would be interested to know if the service will be sustainable once the grant money runs out. thanks Smile

The news reported that they had sold a large number of tickets, indicating that loads were pretty good. That was in December though.

Why do my favorite airlines end up going defunct??

I am going to try to take a quick trip to South Bend next weekend and fly them...i would love to see how well they are doing. I wonder if they are using "normal" boarding passes. When i flew on them back in November (1st day), they printed the boarding passes on fax paper.

It can't be too hard to achieve good loads on planes that small.
