Thank God for this decision. This was the absolute right move. It keeps the name Indianapolis International Airport which is the one that makes the absolute most sense. There is no name that better tells where you are than that one. The decision also gives Cook a little something back by naming a road and building after him. Though I'm still not sure how appropriate it is to single out any one war vet for recognition when so many have died for this country. But this is the best solution to finally put this issue to rest.

I was kind of hoping it would change. Indy Int'l is too boring. Though I sure as hell wouldn't want to be the guy changing all the signs lol.

If you are going to change the name it should at least be to a name people recognize. Other than the debate about the current airport who here would really know anything about Cook?

Speaking of name change, has anyone noticed they have started to re-sign Airport Expressway to Sam Jones Expressway?

Just looked it up myself,
The City of Indianapolis has renamed Airport Expressway, the Sam Jones Expressway. Jones became the first president of the Indianapolis Urban League in 1966. He passed away in 2003. The city says once the Midfield Terminal project at Indianapolis International Airport is completed, the current expressway will no longer lead to the airport.

I noticed the name change to Sam Jones about 3 weeks ago when I was taking a customer back to the airport. I had forgotten reading about it a while back, but I had an "oh yeah!" moment - I mean, you wouldn't keep the name Airport Expressway, would you.!
As for the airport name, I agree with the decision too. Airport names shouldn't change once it's in the system and everyone knows its name - unless there is a really compelling reason to do so. When you go monkeying around with the names, you end up with things like Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Washington Reagan National Airport, which everyone already knew as simply "Hartsfield" and "National."
