I noticed a few things tonight that I don't usually see at IND:

1. UPS had an MD-11 freighter parked over on the northwest apron. I don't recall seeing a UPS freighter that size at IND before. According to flightaware, it appears to be UPS flight 61 from ANC to SDF. I'm guessing it was probably diverted from SDF to IND because of the thunderstorms in Louisville this evening.

2. There were two AA jets, one an MD-88 and one an RJ, and a DL (ASA) CRJ, parked on that pad area southwest of the short runway and in front of the old tower. There is often an unmarked white tri-jet sitting there, but I don't recall seeing commercial passenger jets there before. Perhaps these were also diverted from SDF or maybe CVG or EVV?

3. Some of the ticket counter signage appears to be new. AA, WN, and NW have put up new signs at their ticket counters since I last looked. All look nice.

4. This I have noticed before, but it bears repeating - the new arrivals/departure system at IND is worthless. The signs never seem to update delayed departures and rarely update delayed arrivals until after the flight has arrived late. The TSA guy told me tonight that I shouldn't rely on the displays at all, because the new system often is updated 24 hours before and doesn't let agents in to change flight information after that. The NW gate agent told me that I should watch the display at the gate, which they change manually.

5. The 9:15 pm flight to MCI is NW's last scheduled departure of the day. But there are a bunch of flights that come in after that. I guess those make up the early morning departures each weekday. Just thought that was interesting.

I noticed that your flight left at 12:07a. I checked Very Happy

Were there alot of NW jets parked at the concourse when you left? Could you see much at all of the new terminal or was there no lighting?

You must have the wrong flight. I was going to MCI - we were only delayed until 9:35. It was probably the PHL flight that was delayed past midnight, no? That was the flight leaving from A5, across from my gate at A6, and for which all the people were bitching about the weather delay.

But to answer your question - no, there weren't many jets parked at the terminal. Just two 737s - one each at A7 and A8. There were still at least a dozen NW flights yet to arrive at that point. I'm at MCI now waiting for my 5 pm CDT return flight, get into IND at 1930 EDT. Curious to see what the A concourse looks like on a Friday evening at that time - should be a ton of vacationers and such. MCI is hopping right now, that's for sure.

He probably means A319's or A320's.

And on the PHL thing thats my mistake. I assumed you were going to PHL when you mentioned the PHL delay issue.

My bad. Yes, I meant A319s. Actually I think one might have been a 320.

No problem, just wondered why there would be 737's at A concourse.
