"The vote authorizes union leaders to call a strike but doesn't guarantee they will. Today is the earliest that Northwest could impose the changes. New York bankruptcy judge Allan Gropper is set to rule today on the airline's request to reject its union contracts with pilots and flight attendants. (AP)"

Ok the pilots have voted to authorize a strike. If the judge today tosses out the contract and NW imposes new terms which I expect would happen rapidly then how long would it take before the pilots went on strike? This is assuming the pilots do strike and assuming they maintain the right to strike immediately since their contract was voided and new terms imposed.

Will the judge toss out the contract? Or will he make the two sides continue to work? If the judge does throw out the contract when do you think NW will impose new terms? I would think they know very well that imposing new terms would be the death penalty for the airline.

Lets just hope that cooler heads prevail and that a strike will be avoided.
