This doesn't look good. NW has hired guards to watch over their employees as the strike looms. That certainly won't be viewed as a gesture of goodwill on the part of management.

I'm thinking they're trying to bust the mechanic's union and contract out the work. That's the wave of the future anyway - witness ATA's move to have Republic/Chautauqua do their work, and United's scaleback from the heavy maintenance facility followed by contracting that work to the facility's present tenant. One day, the airlines will contract all maintenance, baggage handling, ticketing, and other services, and the only employees will be pilots, flight attendants, some customer service reps and corporate jobs.

Can I get a peanut crumb with that thimble of Coke?
