I was in D concourse way back in 1999, I think. It was back when you could still go down to the gates without having a boarding pass, i.e. to greet people arriving. It was all US Air back then, and they only used the gates on the right-hand side of D terminal. Funny story - I was waiting for my wife to arrive on a flight from PIT or CLT. The terminal was pretty quiet, and everyone was sitting on the right side of the terminal. Except there was this one guy sitting over on the unused side all by himself. He was talking on his cell phone, loudly enough that I could hear his half of the conversation. I remember thinking, "what an asshole. I hate it when people talk loudly on their phones in public." Then I heard his say something like, "Eli" this or that, and "Dad, that's just football." Then I realized it was Peyton Manning talking to his dad on the phone. He was waiting for a flight to LGA that was just starting to board. He hung up the phone and hopped on right at the end of boarding. I chuckled to myself that, after I figured out who he was, I didn't think he was an asshole anymore. I guess that's one of the perks of celebrity - a free asshole pass from the public. Very Happy

free asshole pass, lmao Laughing Doesn't Air Canada have a gate in D, or do they share a gate with United or U.S.?

Why do my favorite airlines end up going defunct??

I believe US Airways got a pretty sweat deal on those gates back in the day and signed for many years for the rights to have them. Even when they were cutting back their operations, I believe it was determined US Airways would hold on to the lease agreement as breaking it was going to cost them more than it was to keep them. Plus they would have become common use gates. This was at the same point and time when ATA was starting to really get serious about growth here and the idea was to keep the gates away from ATA so they wouldn't consider competing with them Boston, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, etc. ATA of course *did* get the schedule worked out to offer service to La Guardia, but they were restricted in a lot of their growth because they had to squeeze their flights in and out of a already fully packed C Concourse operation. I think if I have read correctly, US Airways has expressed interest on leasing five gates in the new terminal.

I believe AC shares a gate with United or USAirways. They don't have enough flights to need one gate.

Well, it is the "Star Alliance" concourse and there are extra gates, so I thought maybe they would have a full gate to themselves.

I know for a while that the left side of the D concourse did not have the jet bridges.

Last time I was in D, it had been 5 or so years for me. The place felt like a totally different airport to me!

All I remember about it (I was like nine at the time) was that it was a night and the place was empty, and my grandparents were coming home from London. Also, they were usuing only the gates on the north side of the concourse.
