Despite ATA cutting service to 4 flights a day the Indianapolis International Airport is having its best year ever. May 2005 traffic numbers are up 8% over the same period last year.
"In what is shaping up to be its busiest year ever, Indianapolis International Airport posted a record 731,000 travelers in May -- noteworthy as it marked the first full month since bankrupt ATA Airlines drastically scaled back flights here.
This year's bustling May passenger count, up 8 percent over last year, startled airport officials who just months ago were bracing for sharp declines. ATA, for years the airport's dominant carrier, shrunk its flight schedule in mid-April from 41 daily flights to four, spurring fears of a catastrophic drop in airport traffic and casting a measure of doubt on the scope of an ongoing $1 billion airport expansion.
Not only have those fears proved unfounded, but the airport remains on track to surpass 2004, when it served a record 8 million-plus passengers. The airport had carried 3.5 million passengers through May, up 12 percent over a year ago."

All this is definately good news for the city and the airport authority.
