Does anyone have any word on the 2005 traffic numbers for IND? I'm estimating somewhere between 8.5 and 8.7 million passengers served which would shatter the record of 8 million served last year. 5% growth for 2006 which would mirror the growth of the Indianapolis market would put the 2006 numbers to nearly 9 million. That is amazing when you consider IND didn't even hit 7 million in 2002.

And also amazing considering the fact that the title of "biggest carrier" at IND has changed in the last few years from US Air to ATA to NWA.

Especially since one of those big 3 has vanished from IND completely now.

I really am curious to find an old US Air timetable from the mid 1990's and see what the schedule was out of there.

Someone had posted it ages ago on airliners.net . It was quite extensive. I believe at the height of the operation US and its regional carriers provided nearly 110 flights a day to IND. Thats a pretty tight fit for 10 gates.

airchive.com has old timetables and route maps for a whole bunch of airlines going back decades. Try this link
http://www.airchive.com/SITE%20PAGES/TIMETABLES-USAIR.html
to the USAir timetables. You can see a jpeg of the route map from August 5, 1989 that shows the Indianapolis and Dayton hubs as well as the bigger ones.
Nothing that suggests 110 flights/day - I think that came later. But this is pretty cool.

I think the 110ish flights a day was from the early to mid 1990's.

Numbers through Oct 2005 are out now. In just 10 minutes IND has handled some 7.06 million passengers. IND is averaging just over 700,000 passengers a month and that includes the slow months of September and October. With the two very busy holiday travel periods to be added in it is safe to say that IND will crush the record of 8 mil set last year. Final numbers should be around 8.5 to 8.6 mil. Should be interesting to see if 2006 pushes us to the 9 mil mark.

I was looking at the numbers for 2004. You know we were 9% over 2003? 2003 ended with about 7.4 mil served. We will have seen at least a 1 mil pax increase in just 2 years.

Through November 2005 the total passengers served is 7.89 million.

This reflects a 7.5% increase over the record setting year of 2004. 2005 should finish with between 8.5 and 8.6 million passengers served. Great year.

2005 final numbers are in. IND served 8,524,422 passengers which is a 6.2% growth over 2004. Domestic traffic saw a 6.7% increase while the demise of ATA created a 34.7% drop in international traffic. The 2005 traffic numbers exceed that of 2004 by half a million passengers. Congrats to IND on this new record.
