InsideIndianaBusiness.com Report

1/5/2007 12:49:58 PM

Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air has announced it will offer non-stop flights to Las Vegas from the Fort Wayne International Airport, beginning March 2.

Flights from Fort Wayne will be offered on Monday and Friday mornings, with return trips on Thursday and Sunday.

Allegiant will also begin offering service in February from Fort Wayne to Orlando-Sanford and the Tampa Bay area.

Press Release

What happens in Vegas, may stay in Vegas, but it will soon start in Fort Wayne, Ind. as Allegiant Air today announces new nonstop jet-service to Las Vegas, Nev. beginning March 2. To kick off the new service, the Las Vegas-based, low-fare airline is offering limited introductory fares as low as $99* one-way.

"We are extremely pleased to expand the Allegiant brand of low-fare, nonstop jet service in the Fort Wayne community," Maurice J. Gallagher, Allegiant Air president & CEO, said. "This is an exciting new addition for our airline and our customers as we launch the only scheduled service between Fort Wayne and Las Vegas."

The new flights will operate two days a week between the Fort Wayne International Airport and McCarran International Airport (Las Vegas). Beginning March 2, flights will depart Fort Wayne Monday and Friday at 7:55 a.m. arriving in Las Vegas at 8:55 a.m. Flights leaving Las Vegas will depart Thursday and Sunday at 11:40 p.m. arriving in Fort Wayne at 6:15 a.m. (all flight times are local). Allegiant will begin service to Orlando-Sanford and the Tampa Bay area Feb. 15.

"We are very pleased with our newest airline/airport partnership," Tory Richardson, Executive Director of Airports for the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority. "Allegiant Air is exactly the service that this community has been requesting, offering low-fare flights to Fort Wayne's top three leisure travel destinations."

The carrier will utilize a full-size, 150-seat MD-80 jet aircraft on the route. The airline said its market research and input from local community leaders indicate that the Fort Wayne-Allen County region will welcome the new nonstop flights and low fares to Las Vegas as an alternative to connecting flights or long drives to other airports.

Through its Allegiant Vacations program, the company also offers complete air and hotel vacation packages to Las Vegas for as low as $276* per person for three-nights, roundtrip (based on double-occupancy, stay at the Plaza Hotel & Casino and a Monday departure) Allegiant Vacations offers low-cost packages with more than 35 of Las Vegas' most exciting hotel properties, including The Wynn, Bellagio, Venetian, Paris, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Caesars, Monte Carlo, Mirage, Excalibur, Tropicana, Bally's, Flamingo, Riviera, Frontier, Luxor, Circus Circus, Imperial Palace, Hooters, Gold Coast, Barbary Coast, Westin Casuarina, Aladdin and Orleans.

Allegiant's $99* one-way introductory fare is limited, must be purchased by Jan. 27 and is valid for travel through June 10, 2007. Introductory fares are not available on all flights. After the introductory fare period, regular one-way fares on the route start as low as $109 one-way.

*All fares one-way and are non-refundable. Fares do not include PFC, segment tax or September 11 security fee of up to $10.40 per segment. Travel purchased at an Allegiant Air ticket counter or through Allegiant Air call centers will cost an additional $5.00 per segment. A segment is defined as one take-off and one landing. Fare rules, routes and schedules are subject to change without notice. Restrictions apply. Offer is not available on the following blackout dates: Feb. 16-19, 26 and April 6-9, 16, 2007.

Reservations can be made on the airline's website at www.allegiantair.com, through the airline's Reservations and Information Center at 702-505-8888 or through professional travel agents.

What kind of impact will this have on IND? I expect the additional frequency on WN, NW will keep current flyers using IND. And certainly fares will be matched or better at IND to compete.

I don't think it will have that much of an effect because the service isn't daily, you are talking about less than 250 seats a week.

Why do my favorite airlines end up going defunct??

The funny thing is, they aren't even flying to LAS from FWA. I might be going to LAS for spring break (VATUSA convention) and I have to go to SBN for allegiant, which i am most likely doing.

I wonder if this is a response to the low number of seats and the high prices to LAS from IND?

I think it's more likely just a natural extension of their core strategy. Small-town airports, service to LAS and SFD primarily, strictly leisure focus. FWA and SBN are exactly the kind of markets they've targeted.

I agree with you. Seems like the perfect city for them to start with a flight or two per week. It's even more isolated from nearby airport, except perhaps for SDF. Maybe it's on their list, just further down the priority...

Fort Wayne should be no surprise. I'm surprised it didn't come sooner.

It's close enough to draw passengers from Ohio who had used their former Toledo - Las Vegas service as well as finding its own customer base.

Allegiant has learned to co-exist peacefully with nearby larger markets.

St. Louis versus Belleville/Mid America
Lincoln versus Omaha
Lansing versus Detroit and Grand Rapids
Topeka versus Kansas City
Fort Collins versus Denver
Bellingham versus Seattle

Allegiant is expanding in Fort Wayne. It is now one of the few cities that will see service to/from all 5 Allegiant cities.

Monday and Fridays to Ft. Lauderdale.
Wednesday and Saturday to Phoenix.

Already --
Monday/Wednesday/Friday to Las Vegas (outbound)
Monday/Thursday to St. Pete
Monday/Wednesday/Friday to Orlando

Peoria and Rockford Illinois are the two other cities with service to all five hubs I believe.

Yes, G4 is already previously announced for FWA-FLL around November 2007. I'm sure G4 will done very extremely well first inaugurate new flight from FWA-FLL. I assumed if G4 will continuation to be expanded more flights.
