I wouldn't count on seeing any international service out of IND besides Canada and Mexico. The airlines are going to keep the bulk of their European flights out of their hubs. And none of them will make Indy a hub. And I wouldn't expect to see any intrastate service either. USAir had a crazy intra-Indiana route system when they had a hub here, and it wasn't profitable. But I agree on San Diego, although it's probably been served already sometime in the past.

NW already added AMS from BDL. NO reason they wouldn't add it from here since IND is their largest operation outside of their 3 hubs.

If they could fill the seats on a nonstop flight without many pax connecting in. And that's a big if. It would also be pushing the range of a 757 (which is what they're going to use from BDL).

That range thing was settled with a recent NW expansion announcement. One of the new routes they are adding with the 757 is only 10 miles different from IND-AMS.

That's good news then. I'd still be concerned that they wouldn't be able to fill the seats on a nonstop though. Since they do have so many direct flights from Indy to other US locations though, they could possibly bring in connecting passengers if they timed it right.

I had done the research and there are enough passengers traveling between Indianapolis and Indiana to Europe daily. That is what makes an AMS flight appealing. They can handle the connection there to get people to places like FRA, DUS, CDG, OSL, etc. International arrivals in Europe is so much easier to deal with than here.

I think the new airport is going to bring about a "revolution" in air travel for Indy. Maybe not a revolution, but a log of changes hopefully. More international service. JetBlue. haha

Let me pose one question though....if you ahd a choice between being crammed in a 757 from IND, or taking a 45 minute flight and taking a A330, what would you do?
As for new routes...AUS, MSY, year-round SFO????

Oh it is very easy. 757 from here. It is 45 min to DTW plus the layover. And I'd certainly prefer to deal with customs/immigration where I am the only flight coming in versus half a dozen. I want to know that once I have passed inspection I can just go home. The A333's are nice but I'll take the nonstop from here to AMS any day.

Look at the SLC market. It is tiny. It is significantly smaller than the IND market. Plus the population within 2 hours of IND is relatively large. I think over 2 mil.

Yeah Delta (Shuttle America) had good load factors on the SLC route and they weren't planning on dropping it, but the 170's were needed someplace else and so Delta discontinued the route.
