AirTran Airways Launches Nonstop Service to Las Vegas

ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: AAI), launched nonstop service today between Indianapolis International Airport and McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. Passengers on the flight were treated to a special in- flight performance by Elvis to celebrate the new service to Las Vegas.

In addition to the regularly scheduled XM Satellite Radio, passengers on the inaugural flight received bonus in-flight entertainment with performances by "Elvis" prior to boarding, as well as en route to Las Vegas. Elvis also helped spread Las Vegas fever by distributing complimentary decks of limited edition, collector's item playing cards to honor the new AirTran Airways service to Las Vegas.

Interesting that it's not a same-aircraft return flight. The LAS-IND flight leaves a few minutes before the IND-LAS flight arrives, so it's a plane from somewhere else that they're using on both legs. That could be troublesome if there are air traffic delays, because you would be subject to, say congestion in ATL and the aircraft not arriving at IND to head to LAS. With NW's service, I think the aircraft just goes IND-LAS and back, doesn't it?

Can I get a peanut crumb with that thimble of Coke?

I'm not saying there are serious problems with AirTran's media relations group but...

This route was scheduled to start December 20th. The route started over a month early. This is the same group that has yet to press release IND-MSY.
