Unfortunately the merger of AirTran and Southwest means cuts for IND. It appears that 7 flights will be cut over the summer. It seems this is in addition to SRQ falling victim and not returning as seasonal service. FLL will be gone. PHX will be cut to 1x daily. MCO will be cut to 3x daily. RSW will be cut to 1x daily. Remember that RSW used to run at 3x daily and occasionally 4x daily under AirTran. MCO ran as high as 5x daily with AirTran while Southwest ran a couple nonstop flights a day. Three daily departures is all that will remain to one of IND's biggest destinations - Orlando. Single flight cuts will also come to places like BWI and MDW as well.
The overall loss to capacity amounts to approximately 660,000 seats a year. Comparing capacity loss to 2011's traffic that comes to about an 8-9% loss. What is IND going to do to try and rescue this sinking ship?

It would be nice if Delta would restart the focus city

Delta or JetBlue would be great. It doesn't seem that anyone else is interested in IND.

I seem to remember Southwest sending a letter to the airport board praising their ability to reduce costs for the airlines and pledging to add new service. I guess the merger killed that idea.

The IAA is going to have to realize eventually that significant incentives will be needed to bring in new service. Whatever they are doing right now isn't working.
