With fuel costs rising the Indianapolis Airport Authority announced that beginning July 1st it would lower landing fees by 14%.

"Indianapolis International Airport already charges low landing fees for airliners, and the board chopped them even more to give airlines a break at a time when energy costs are surging.

'We are sending a very loud signal that we, as an airport, are very sensitive to the plight of the airlines,' airport spokesman Dennis Rosebrough said Friday."

"It's not as if the airport will run short of cash by trimming fees. Heavier travel will keep overall revenue even."

...but revenues would have climbed had you not created this gigantic giveaway to FedEx and NWA. Maybe you could have used the extra money to clean the bathrooms more than once a week. Or to fix the Arr/Dep monitors. Or to repair the baggage claim carousels.

Can I get a peanut crumb with that thimble of Coke?

What kind of giveaways have Fedex and NW received? Or are you talking about this being the giveaway?

BTW.. maybe they could fix their website Smile

as I understand it, IND already has low landing fees in comparison to other mid-size airports. obviously they are not hurting for cash. what kind of affect do you think this will have? do you think that this will encourage more flights or possibly new airlines? there was only a short time between the decision made the new fees taking effect, do you think they will raise fees once the new terminal opens?

Right now space for attracting a new airline is very limited. There may end up being only 1 gate available. Right now there are 2 but I assume AirTran will be taking that as they expand their service to 11 daily departures in November. I think the airport should keep the fees low even after the new terminal opens. These lower fees have helped to put IND on the map.
