Rumors abound about the cities to which Jet Blue will expand when they take delivery of their new smaller aircraft. Sure wish Indy would be one of them. But would it even be possible given the lack of available gates?

I was reading up on the project today at the 'official' IAA site ( www.newindairport.com ). Says that the new terminal building will only expand the airport to 40 gates from the current 33? Of course, the old terminal building also becomes the International terminal once the midfield terminal opens...

Are you sure about that? Because I've read that a.) the fate of the old terminal building hadn't yet been decided; and that b.) once the new terminal is built, the old one could be removed to make way for further FX expansion. And I don't believe the old terminal will be connected to the new terminal in any way, so it would be strange to use the old building as the international terminal.

I suspect IND is awaiting a new airline. The reason I say is that C7 is vacant and so is a ticket counter. This leads me to believe they are holding a spot for someone. My best guess is JetBlue.

I thought C7 was one of the three CO gates. Are you sure it's not C4 or one of the TZ gates?
And just curious, where is the vacant ticketing counter?

C1 = Midwest/America West
C2 = Empty
C3 = Frontier
C4 = AirTran
C5 = Continental
C6 = Continental
C7 = Empty
C8 = Southwest
C9 = Southwest
C10 = ATA
This I am very sure of.
The empty ticket counter was in the area of the Southwest counters.

seems odd for Continental to use gates across from each other.
i'm presuming AirTran will go ahead and secure a second gate for their fall expansion?

Actually, C5-10 are in the "cul-de-sac" at the end of the terminal. So CO's gates are actually right next to each other.

cul-de-sac... nice way to put it But that is correct. B and the end of concourse C are in this format.

By the way - I know CO used to have C5, 6, and 7. When did they give up C7? Last time I flew CO, which was about 3 weeks ago, I thought they still had C7, but I must have been mistaken.

I can guarantee you that C7 is vacant. I went down there on the 30th just to check the gate assignments. If they had C7 and gave it up that would lead me to believe someone is moving in.

Until the new terminal opens, i don't think there will be any "wild" expansion.
